THE WATER CAME UP TO HERE

PHOTOGRAPHS IN DIALOGUE WITH STORIES FROM SANTA ANA

August 21- September 18, 2021

The Water Came Up To Here is an exhibition that brings together the self portraits of five international artists with the testimonies in various formats from women in Santa Ana. Within the same space, they evoke a dialogue around the transformation of the body and territory.

In the photographs of Ana Mendieta, Aneta Grzeszykowska, Francesca Woodman, Katalin Ladik and Zanele Muholi, the artists place themselves in front of the camera as an act of asserting power over the way they are depicted.

The stories of the four women from Santa Ana: Nelly Vera, Gineth Camargo, Xiomara Da Silva y Raysa Ramírez, arise from a process of interpreting the works of the exhibited artists, based on their own life experiences. As a result, the creation of pieces in dialogue with the photographs become part of the show, contextualizing the exhibition in the territory that surrounds us.

The Water Came Up To Here invites us to return to the root of the artworks, to connect with the universal process of questioning ourselves, our surroundings, and our role in society.
